About WallRate

WallRate is an independent editorial site about one specific problem: how to make a rental feel like yours without losing your deposit.

We cover renter-friendly wall decor, peel-and-stick wallpaper, gallery walls, wall-mounted storage and small-space layouts for apartments across the United States.

How we research

We are an editorial team, not a testing lab. That shapes what we publish, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise:

  • We rank products using manufacturer-published specifications — adhesive type, claimed removability, roll dimensions and coverage, and stated weight ratings.
  • We read verified-purchase feedback at volume, looking for recurring failure patterns: edges lifting, corners curling, paint coming away with the product, hardware pulling out of the wall.
  • We cross-check recommendations against published conventions and standards — for example the 57-inch center height used by museums and galleries for hanging art.
  • We do not claim hands-on testing we have not done. Where a number comes from a spec sheet or a package label, we say where it came from.

If something on this site is inaccurate, tell us. Corrections get priority over new articles.

How we make money

WallRate is funded by affiliate commissions. When you buy something through one of our links, we may earn a small percentage — at no extra cost to you. Commission rates never decide what we recommend, and we do not accept payment for a placement. You can read the details on our affiliate disclosure page.

Who this site is for

Renters. Specifically, people in apartments, dorms and first homes who want a space that looks intentional and are not allowed — or not willing — to repaint, drill or renovate. Most of what we write assumes a lease, a deposit, and a wall you have to hand back exactly as you found it.

Editorial standards

  • Every guide has to contain at least one thing you can verify: a measurement, a coverage calculation, a weight rating, a removal technique.
  • We do not publish invented first-person experiences. No fabricated “we tested this for six months.”
  • We use licensed or freely-licensed stock photography, and we do not scrape images from search results.
  • We update buying guides when a manufacturer changes a spec or a product is discontinued.
